Educators-in-Industry Institute
The Tech Prep Educators-in-Industry Institute is a great way to explore
current industry trends by visiting top employers in the Central Florida
area. It also provides great networking opportunities to form long-lasting
professional associations with teachers, administrators and counselors
from Orange and Osceola District schools and Valencia Community College.
Over 800 educators have participated in the institute since Tech Prep
began this program in 1992.
The institutes are four days in length. The first 3 ½ days
are spent visiting seven businesses in key industry areas. The final
afternoon is a workshop to discuss
what was learned and how we can incorporate it in our teaching or
interactions with students. Two institutes will be held in June:
Institute 1: June 5, 6, 7, 8
Institute 2: June 12, 13, 14, 15
Limited space is available. Email bandrews@valenciacc.edu
for more information or to sign-up.
Tutors Needed!
The West Campus Tutoring Center is in need of tutors for all subject
areas except math.
Interested students can apply at the tutoring center, located in SSB-248.

News from Procurement
The college has experienced several vendor scams over the years through
e-mail and phone solicitations. If you are ever in doubt, please call
the Procurement Office for verification. The most notorious scams
involve copier toner cartridges and credit card information. A salesman
will call a department knowing exactly what copier and model they
have. They will want to send you the toner you need, only to be billed
2-3 times higher than the original cost. Most of our copiers already
have toner included in our service contracts. No vendor has been instructed
to contact staff regarding their inventory of toner cartridges, copiers
or printers. Ordering is done through the Procurement Office.
E-mails appearing to be from JPMorgan or Chase Manhattan have been
popping up in P-Card users’ in-boxes requesting credit card
verification information. Do not respond to these types of e-mails.
JPMorgan Chase has assured us that they will never send an e-mail
to card holders requesting this type of information. Correspondence
from our P-Card bank, JPMorgan Chase, will first be with the Procurement
Office.
College Policy (6Hx28:04-04) states that “agents, sales persons
and solicitors shall not be permitted on campus to distribute literature,
solicit funds, or sell to faculty, staff, students, or campus organizations
without specific approval by the president or an authorized designee.”
If you are having a problem with a supplier, please let the procurement
office know so the behavior can be documented.
