News from Procurement
Personal purchases for Dell computers are made available to all
faculty, staff, and students at a discounted price. The link for
purchasing is located on the Procurement Web site at: . Please note
that this pricing offered from Dell is not Valencia's contract
pricing. Dell offers a discount to students and staff of higher
education institutions all over the country and this has no
correlation with Valencia's formal contract.
The Procurement Web site has been updated and new information is
added daily. Please visit for topics such as expenditure of funds,
bidding requirements, service contracts, freight and postage,
equipment, etc.
The Procurement department is always available to visit your
department for discussion on purchasing procedures, college policy,
Florida statues and guidelines. Contact Leadership Valencia for a
"workshop on demand" with Procurement. Have team, will travel!

Journeying Toward an Un-divided Life: Formation Trust Circle
- Formation work is creating open and trustworthy spaces where
individuals work alone, but together in a quiet, focused space to
find reconnection with the inner self. Join presenters Mary Allen
and Jane Renfroe this year for an ongoing, monthly gathering of a
circle of trust. A Hidden Wholeness by Parker J. Palmer will serve
as our road map for this journey together. This is not your
traditional, analytical book group, but rather a space where each
participant can explore his/her own responses to how the ideas in
the book intersect with our lives. NOTE: The cost for this retreat
is $ 250.00. It includes overnight accommodations, all meals and
materials. Friday, April 7, 1 p.m. -Sunday, April 9, 1 p.m.,
Canterbury Retreat, Oviedo FL, registration code: LFORM0407.

Colin Archibald delivered an invited presentation to the
Florida IT Educators' Summit entitled "Statewide Course Numbering
System SCNS Mysteries Revealed" and has been appointed to the ACM's
Special Interest Group for IT Education (SIGITE) committee that will
create the model curriculum for a two year degree in IT. When he is
not thinking about IT curricula you can often find Colin working
with retired racing greyhounds that are up for adoption. He invites
everyone to come to a PetsMart during the Spring National Adoption
weekend May 5-7 to meet a retired racing greyhound.
Over spring break several Valencia administrators, faculty, and lab
assistants were busy with the 18th Annual International Conference
on Technology for Collegiate Mathematics (ICTCM) held in Orlando on
March 16-19. The conference, sponsored by Addison Wesley, was hosted
by Valencia Community College and co-chaired by Jody DeVoe
and Paul Flores. Ruth Prather, provost, East and
Winter Park Campuses, was on hand at the opening session to welcome
the conference attendees. Liz Gombash conducted a
preconference session entitled "Successful Grant Writing
Strategies". James Lang presented a session entitled
"When is Graphing Calculator not a Calculator?" Margie Szoke
presented a session entitled "Using the TI-83 Graph Link to Develop
Activities at the College Preparatory Level." The conference
committee was able to provide scholarships for two middle school
teachers to attend. It took many volunteers to keep the conference
running smoothly and a hugh thanks goes to Julia Becker, Steve
Browdy, George Fink, Libby Gore, Lee Graubner, Mert Hollister,
Deanna Hollister, Judy Jones, Lori Ann Keegan, Maryke Lee, Martine
Levy-Nelson, Serena Migliorini, Luis Negron, Patrick Murphy. Kurt
Overhiser, Rick Pal, Julie Phelps, Barbara Reuter, Joe Rich, Mandy
Saxman, Margie Szoke, Faustina Wright and Wakeel Zainulabdeen.
