Valencia Students Keeping an Eye on the Whales
On March 1, Valencia representatives visited SeaWorld Orlando to
learn more about the Valencia/SeaWorld Whale Watch internship
program. Valencia psychology and biology students have been working
with Steve Clark and his colleagues at SeaWorld Orlando to collect
research data pertaining to the behaviors, spatial relations and
nursing habits of killer whales. This internship is an extremely
popular one among Valencia students. For more information about the
whale watch program, please contact Debra Hollister at extension

making you feel more positive? Or, did that person 'dip from your
bucket', leaving you feeling more negative than before? How Full Is
Your Bucket reveals how even the briefest interactions affect your
relationships, productivity, health and longevity. Organized around
a simple metaphor of a dipper and a bucket and grounded in 50 years
of research, this workshop will show you how to greatly increase the

negative. Friday, March 31, 8:30-11:00 a.m., East Campus, Room

Journeying Toward an Undivided Life: Formation Trust Circle -
Formation work is creating open and trustworthy spaces where
individuals work alone, but together in a quiet, focused space to

and Jane Renfroe this year for an ongoing, monthly gathering of a
circle of trust. A Hidden Wholeness by Parker J. Palmer will serve
as our road map for this journey together. This is not your
traditional, analytical book group, but rather a space where each
participant can explore his/her own responses to how the ideas in
the book intersect with our lives. NOTE: The cost for this retreat
is $250.00. It includes overnight accommodations, all meals, and

changes and achieve less stress and more success in your work and
life when someone 'moves your cheese'. Friday, April 7, 10 a.m.-12

Kudos
During the national convention of the Association for the Promotion
of Campus Activities (APCA) held in Atlanta, Georgia, Valencia's
Matador Day was awarded the "National Program of the Year." This is
the first time a multi-campus program has been selected. In
addition, Victor Collazo, student development coordinator, West
Campus, received one of APCA's Leadership Awards at its Leadership
Luncheon on Friday, March 3. Danielle Boileau, student development
coordinator, Winter Park, Katie Shephard, student development
coordinator, Osceola and Victor Collazo conducted a workshop called
"Advising the Advisors." Victor Collazo also conducted two
additional workshops, "The FISH! Philosophy" and "The Leadership
Secrets of Santa Claus."
Thank you
I would like to thank all of my Valencia friends and colleagues for
their kind sympathies for the recent loss of my father. I sincerely
appreciate your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
Linda Downing
I want to extend a sincere thank you to all of you who supported me
and sent strong "caring" messages to me preceding and following the
death of my 40-year-old brother from esophageal cancer. Because of
your love and support, I was once again reminded of - and fortunate
to experience - the strength a person gains from the action of
others. Also, even though the dying process from a terminal illness
is extremely difficult, I was reminded of the blessings a family
gains as a result of being together through the process. I
personally gained strength from the outpouring of "caring" from my
Valencia family. Thank you for "being with" me.
Fondly, Louise Pitts
I would like to take the opportunity to thank my Valencia family for
the prayers and contributions to the American Heart Association on
behalf of my mother. Your support, beautiful flowers, cards and
words of comfort in response to the death of my mother sustained me
through difficult times past and no doubt, those in the future.
Please accept my sincere gratitude and know that your kindness means
so much.

The Wellness Fair Is Coming!
Once again, Human Resources will host the annual Wellness Fair. Both
full-time and part-time employees are welcome to participate.
Following are the dates, times and locations for each campus:
Tuesday, April 11 - West Campus, HSB-105, 8-11 a.m.; Osceola Campus,
1-232/234, 1-4 p.m.
Wednesday, April 12 - East Campus, 5-112, 8-11 a.m.; Winter Park
Campus, Rm. 224-226, 1-4 p.m.
Thursday, April 13 - DTC, First Floor Conference room, 8-11 a.m.
Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida will be on-site to do health
screenings, massage therapy, lifestyle questionnaires and so much
more with immediate results of your tests. Vision Select will be
there to discuss the vision discounts that are available to
full-time employees. Also attending the fair will be BJ's Wholesale,
Ashley Park Chiropractic Clinic, LA Weight Loss, and our employee
assistance program, The Allen Group. Kissimmee Family Wellness
Center will be doing chair massages.
We've added a new twist to this year's fair. Did you know that
petting a dog or cat can lower your blood pressure? Studies have
also shown that people who own pets have a longer life expectancy.
For the first time, we will have pet adoptions at the Wellness Fair.
Pet Rescues by Judy, a nonprofit organization, will be outside,
on-site with a few of her precious bundles of joy ready for
adoption. She will be set up at the West, East and Winter Park
campuses only. Please advise employees that if they decide to adopt
a pet, arrangements must be made to remove the pet from the campus
as pets are not allowed inside the buildings for health reasons
(i.e., people with allergies, etc.).
Watch for more information in the near future. If you have any
questions, please contact a member of the Benefits and Retirement
Team: Laurie Youngman, ext. 8116, Linda Marcia, ext.8038 or Barbara
Luse, ext. 8045.
An Extra Note to the Wellness Fair
Be sure to get your health assessments done at the health fair. This
could qualify you for a pilot group of employees to participate in a
wellness program this summer. Also sign up for "Florida on the Move"
and get a free pedometer. For more information contact Debi Jakubcin
at ext. 2281 or djakubcin@valenciacc.edu.
Submissions to the Bulletin are encouraged, so please e-mail your
achievements, awards, recognitions, and relevant information for the
college community to Mary Jane Jones, Staff Assistant in Marketing
and Media Relations. Deadline for submission is 5 p.m. on the
Tuesday preceding each Friday's distribution. Mary Jane can be
reached at ext.1017, or mjjones@valenciacc.edu.
