Procurement News

Toner cartridge scams - beware of solicitors who call you and want to send you toner cartridges. The college has contracts with all our copier vendors who provide us with toner, and the cost is covered in our contract. Printer toner is ordered when needed by departments through the Procurement web site or your P-Card. We rotate the orders among several local developing companies.

Are specifications underutilized? The average procurement official underutilizes the art of specification development and writing. The reason is not because of lack of knowledge or skill but because it is a process that takes research and time. Here are several examples of good and bad specifications:

Good

Bad

Clear, well written

Vague, poorly written

Ensure a trouble free procurement process

Create confusion with bidders

Result in quality goods

Result in bid protests

Timely delivery

Restrict competition

Minimal contract management issues

Result in delivery delays

Increase in paper costs - As with everything else, the cost of paper has increased and is still climbing. Therefore, the cost of in-stock copy paper purchased through our copy centers has increased.  The following will be billed accordingly:

  • all NCR paper - $5 per ream
  • 20# color paper - $4 per ream
  • 24/60# color card stock - $4 per ream
  • ledger size paper, white - $6 per ream

Human Resource News

Supervisors of career service employees, it is time to talk to your full-time career service employees regarding their yearly performance evaluation. Packets were sent to supervisors via email July 2 that contain helpful guidelines to make this an effective experience. The evaluation(s) should be returned to Human Resources by September 30. College policy 6Hx28:09-09 states that full-time career service employees will be evaluated in writing at least once a year. The policy can be viewed on our website at valenciacc.edu/policies/. Contact Sherian Stevenson at ext. 8042 for any questions.
