Manager/Supervisor Training Program
We are excited to announce that the next Manager/Supervisor Training Program starts on September 18 and runs until April 16. This is an 8 seminar series utilizing a cohort approach with professional and career staff employees from all campuses. The program was developed to provide managers/supervisors with the knowledge and tools to manage their employees and achieve results. The seminars use a strengths-based approach to management and include the following titles: Focusing Our Vision For Effective Supervision, Spotting HR/Legal Issues, Understanding Self & Others For Effective Supervision (DiSC), Bringing Out The Best In Others, Experiential Team Building, Feedback, Coaching, Talent Management, Dealing With Conflict and Engaging In Crucial Conversations, and Sustaining Energy For A Collaborative Work Environment Though Effective Supervision. Applications are currently being accepted online through the Leadership Valencia website. For more information or to apply to the program go to http://www.valenciacc.edu/leadership/ and click on the Manager/Supervisor Training Program link on the left. If you have any questions, contact Brent Nakagama at extension 2852. The application deadline is August 28.
Procurement News
Problems or issues with vendors can range from poor or inefficient service to incorrect invoicing. The only way Procurement can track a vendor’s performance is by you helping us to document such occurrences. A form is available on our web page to report unsatisfactory materials and/or service from a vendor. The form can be found at http://valenciacc. edu/procurement/facultystaff.asp. Please complete, when needed and forward to the Procurement Office for handling.
Institutional Memberships - When paying for Institutional memberships using your P-Card or when creating a Banner requisition, be sure to use Account 645020.
Independent Contractor or Employee? - It is the College’s responsibility to determine whether an individual who provides services to us is an independent contractor or an employee. Although many independent contractor relationships begin at the request of the service provider, this is no guarantee the IRS will not challenge the classification. The keys are to look at the entire relationship, consider the degree or extent of the right to direct and control and to document factors that are utilized in coming up with the determination. An excellent article published in the Journal of Accountancy goes into further detail regarding the subject of Consultant vs. Employee. A copy of this article can be found on the Procurement web site at http://valenciacc.edu/ procurement/facultystaff_FAQs.asp
Copy Center Charges and Copier Overage Charges - Any charge to your account can be viewed in Banner. This includes Copy Center charges and copier overage charges. Use the form FGIBDST, and type in the pooled account 6200 for your Index/Orgn. Under the YTD column for 620040, go to Options-Transaction Detail Information. Your charges will be clearly marked. Should you have any questions or concerns regarding either charge, you can call the Copy Center or Mary Ellen Davies.
Enterprise Car Rental - When utilizing our Enterprise Car Rental contract, be sure to include the Valencia Account Number (KC1258) for special pricing. While using this contract for business, collision and liability coverage is included in the pricing.
