For an introduction to heart disease and more go to http://www.medicinenet. com/heart_disease/article.htm. The following are some highlight from the website:

The heart is like any other muscle, requiring blood to supply oxygen and nutrients for it to function. The heart's needs are provided by the coronary arteries, which begin at the base of the aorta and spread across the surface of the heart, branching out to all areas of the heart muscle.

The coronary arteries are at risk for narrowing as cholesterol deposits, called plaques, build up inside the artery. If the arteries narrow enough, blood supply to the heart muscle may be compromised (slowed down), and this slowing of blood flow to the heart causes pain, or angina.

A heart attack or myocardial infarction occurs when a plaque ruptures, allowing a blood clot to form. This completely obstructs the artery, stopping blood flow to part of the heart muscle, and that portion of muscle dies.

Please check out the Wellness website at www.valencia.edu/wellness, or contact Debi Jakubcin at djakubcin@valenciacc. edu or ext. 2281 if you have any questions.

  • Heaviest spending months: August - $22,598 and June - $28,861
  • Lowest spending months: December - $7,005 and March - $8,542
  • The college purchases 18.67 % of recycled products for a total of $31,477 per year. Remaining purchases equal $137,121 per year.
  • Total number of orders placed with Office Depot for FY0708:  1,515

Office Depot reports quarterly, for State and Board Reports, the spending of Woman Owned/Minority Owned sub-contractors hired by Office Depot. This type of reporting is known as a second tier level and is completed by several of our larger companies.

Just a reminder that effective July 1, minimum orders for Office Depot are $25. Orders are next-day-delivery if placed by 4 p.m. each day.
