News from Procurement

Attention Procurement Cardholders - If a transaction appears in PaymentNet under your account and you have not received the items and/or an invoice, or you do not recognize the charge, please contact the responsible vendor immediately to rectify the problem. In good practice, a vendor should not charge your account until the items have been shipped. If this is a continued problem for you despite attempts to remedy the situation, you may want to consider obtaining your items from another vendor.

Procurement Language - Ever wonder about some of the language you hear from us? For example, “piggyback.” This term simply means that we may utilize an existing (competitively solicited) contract from another governmental organization. Many government solicitations contain a clause that requires the vendor to extend the resulting contractual pricing to other governmental agencies. This option often allows the college to take advantage of competitive pricing obtained by larger organizations. There are additional cost savings through reduction in administrative expenses. For example, we often “piggyback” on State of Florida term contracts. Just another way we are able to obtain goods or services quickly at a good price.

Going Green Collegewide - Procurement recently established a collegewide contract with Peninsular Paper as part of the college’s efforts to go green. As you might imagine, it takes a lot of manpower and supplies to keep our campuses looking good. Procurement, in close collaboration with Plant Operations, developed specifications and solicited a bid on custodial materials and supplies. These products include paper towels, toilet tissue, multi-fold towels and foam soap. These are environmentally preferred products which have a lesser or reduced effect on human health and the environment. All products are Green Sealed Certified. Green Seal is a non-profit organization which works with manufacturers, industry sectors, purchasing groups and governments at all levels to "green" the production and purchasing chain. They utilize a life-cycle approach, which means they evaluate a product or service beginning with material extraction, continuing with manufacturing and use, and ending with recycling and disposal. Products only become Green Sealed Certified after rigorous testing and evaluation, including on-site plant visits. If the product meets the organization's high standard, it will be awarded the Green Seal. Once certified, products are subject to annual monitoring to ensure that the product offered for sale continues to meet the Green Seal standard.
