Certificate Program:

This is a short-term program that can be completed in one year or less. It is designed to equip you with a specialized skill set for immediate employment or job advancement. All of the certificate courses are also included in the related A.S. degree program so it can be used as a building block toward completing the degree -- which will help improve your earning potential.

  • Music and Sound Production - Audio Visual Production (15 credits)

Program Description:

Enroll in Valencia's Music & Sound Technology program, and you'll have the opportunity to perform and work with awe-inspiring artists. Our A.S. degree program takes a unique approach to preparing you for a career in the music industry. You'll study studio and live sound techniques, post-production and MIDI, as well as music, allowing you to develop the technical skills and aesthetic judgment to handle both the artistic and technical demands of music production. This practical approach gives you real world experience in a wide range of performance venues from theater to soundstage to studio, and a chance to develop, practice and refine your craft on your way to a high-wage career.

Typical Tasks may include:

  • configuring audio equipment in accordance with the client's needs
  • operating an audio recording/mixing system using a digital audio workstation for recording and editing music
  • integrating sound to film and television productions
  • mastering audio
  • authoring CD's, Dual Discs, DVD-A and streaming audio

Characteristics Needed to be Successful:

  • Enjoy working with the technical side of music and sound
  • Be entrepreneurial since this is a freelance industry

Cool Things about Valencia's Music Program:

Flatfoot Records is a label run entirely by students in Valencia's music production department. In fact, Valencia is the only community college in the country that recruits, records, produces and promotes acts on its very own label.
