David F. Collier Memorial Scholarship David F. Collier, owner of Collier
Jaguar, was a devoted family man and successful
entrepreneur who exhibited noteworthy commitment
to the Central Florida community. His public
endeavors were focused on the successful futures
of young people. Mr. Collier funded the Mary
Smedley Collier Scholarship at Valencia and
supported the college in many fund-raising
efforts. The Alumni Association is proud to
award this scholarship in David Collier's honor.
David F. Collier 2008 Scholar: Maria E. Crepaz
Charlie Edwards Memorial Scholarship The Charlie Edwards Memorial Scholarship
was established to encourage students who show
commitment; through hard work, diligence, heart
and spirit. Charlie Edwards loved law enforcement
and dedicated these virtues to this career
of 29 years. Charlie was a member of the Alumni
Association, and also taught law enforcement
officers at Valencia Community College. His
passions were police work and family. Charlie
loved to be a part of a solution to challenges;
the Charlie Edwards Memorial Scholarship provides
financial assistance to those who face challenges
in obtaining an education and was established
in his name.
Charlie Edwards Memorial Scholarship 2008 Scholar: Zinnia O. Young
Lula Crosby Keyes Scholarship The Lula Crosby Keyes Scholarship
was established by Keith Holcomb, a former
student, as a tribute to the outstanding teaching
record and abilities of Professor Lula Keyes.
With nearly 30 years of service at Valencia,
Professor Keyes exemplifies the highest level
of dedication to learning. Known for her bright
smile and caring personality, she has been
a benchmark for educational excellence, always
going above and beyond in service to students.
She considers having this scholarship named
for her as one of her greatest honors because
of the opportunities it offers students.
Lula Crosby Keyes Scholarship 2008 Scholars: Natalie L. Samocki
Venessa A. Tatum
Roger G. Keyes Scholarship Valencia alumni have a long-standing
tradition of helping each other. Roger G. Keyes
demonstrates this as a leader of the Alumni
Association in its work to support students
and to help them overcome challenges in the
way of their academic success. Mr. Keyes is
an engineer with 38 years of employment in
the defense industry, including nearly 30 years
with Lockheed Martin before retiring.
Mr. Keyes believes that students’ potential
often goes unrecognized, even by them, and shows
his belief in their abilities through this scholarship
established in his name.
Roger G. Keyes Scholarship 2008 Scholars: Jessica V. Bonilla
Amy R. Morrison
Rosita N. Martinez Scholarship From the time Valencia opened
its doors, students have looked to Dr. Rosita
N. Martinez for guidance, support and instruction.
Even after over 30 years of teaching at Valencia,
Dr. Martinez possesses the uncanny knack of
making everyone around her realize they are
special. It is no wonder that faculty and staff
call her "the tallest 4'11" person
around." Students appreciate her because
of her genuine interest in their success. Donors
Lula and Roger Keyes, both friends of the Association
and ardent supporters of Valencia, pay tribute
to Dr. Martinez's tremendous accomplishments
in the classroom through this scholarship in
her name.

Florence E. & Andrea L. Jasica Scholarship
Since memories and remembrances of our loved
ones are important...earlier this year I approached
Valencia Community College to establish an endowed
named scholarship in memory of my mother, Florence
Jasica. My mother was very interested in
furthering education and this was something
I know she would have wanted. I guess I created
a little bit of immortality for her. Her legacy
and her name will go on. This is just my way
of honoring a great lady, my mother.

Betty House Palmer Scholarship
Betty House Palmer, a long-time leader in the
Alumni Association, retired in December 2002
after 26 years of dedicated service as a Valencia
employee. Her devotion to Valencia and her
love of students led her to establish the Betty
House Palmer student scholarship in 1997 in
honor of her parents, William T. and Elva Leonard
House. Ms. Palmer feels that community colleges
are vital in opening doors for a wide group
of students who may not have begun their journey
into higher education otherwise. Students also
gain the foundation necessary for a successful
transition into a 4-year college if they choose
that path. Ms. Palmer's dream is to see every
student in need awarded a scholarship.
