Valencia's Board of Trustees

Each of the 28 community colleges in Florida’s statewide system is under the local control of a lay District Board of Trustees composed of citizens who serve without pay and are legally vested with decision making power in all matters of college policy, programs, building, budget and personnel. Each trustee is appointed by the governor.

Eight Orange and Osceola County citizens form the Valencia Community College District Board of Trustees. Meeting in regular sessions once each month, these civic-minded individuals contribute their time and talent to guiding the development of Valencia Community College so that it remains responsive to the educational needs of its local community.

Chairman, Larry Slocum, retired Walt Disney World executive and resident of Kissimmee, is also on the board of directors for the Valencia Community College Foundation. Over his long career with Disney he was involved with the openings of the Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Disney/MGM Studios and Disneyland Paris. He is a graduate of the University of Denver.

Vice Chairman, Lew Oliver is a law partner at Quinones, Fitzgibbons, Pfister & Oliver P.L., and resides in Orlando. He has been a Florida resident since 1970, and received his Bachelor's degree from Stetson University, and his Juris Doctorate from Georgetown University Law School. He previously served as Senior Vice President of AMT Inc., a transportation technology firm, and as Vice President for Neotonus, Inc.

buchanan Trustee, Jerry Buchanan is a retired bank executive. She is a graduate of Vanderbilt University and also is a product of Florida's community college system. She resides in Orlando and is active on the Women's Business Council of the Greater Orlando Chamber of Commerce.

mooreTrustee, Ed Moore,  a retired Brown & Brown Insurance executive, is a resident of Kissimmee. He is a graduate of Ball State University and Indiana Central. He is active in civic organizations, including the Kiwanis Club and Mid-Florida Economic Development Council.
 

Bertica Cabrera-MorrisBertica Cabrera-Morris, a resident of Orlando, is a consultant and restaurateur. Her experience includes 11 years in Orange County Public Schools in governmental relations and school planning, and service as the Assistant to the Orange County Chairman for Community Affairs and Public Relations. She is president of Bertica Cabrera Consulting, and owns two local restaurants.

Ronald Blocker is superintendent of Orange County Public Schools. A resident of Orlando since 1977, he serves many local organizations including the Central Florida YMCA, Central Florida Boy Scouts of America, the Florida Association of School District Superintendents, United Arts, and the Mid-Florida Economic Development Commission. He is a member of Phi Delta Kappa. He received both his Bachelor's and Master's degrees from the University of Florida.
 

Raymer Maguire IIIRaymer Maguire III is an attorney specializing in eminent domain with Fixel, Maguire & Willis. A lifelong resident of Orlando, he earned his law degree from the Florida State University College of Law and has been a member of the Florida Bar since 1979. Maguire is also an active member on the Valencia Foundation Board of Directors. Maguire's father, Raymer Maguire Jr., helped found Valencia and served on its board for 17 years.

Maria GrulichMaria Grulich serves as the Administrator of the Osceola County Economic Development Department which includes the Division of Economic Development, Convention & Visitors Bureau and Event Facilities. Maria is also the primary contact for recruitment and expansion of business and industry. Maria oversees all programs related to the recruitment and retention of business and industries for Osceola County.
