Impact on the Community

Strengthening community through extending opportunity

It starts with access. Providing opportunities that previously did not exist, to people who would not have them otherwise.

  • Valencia produces more associate’s degree grads than any other community college in the nation.

  • We are sixth in the nation in the number of associate degrees awarded to minorities.

  • With more than 55,000 students, Valencia is the third largest of Florida 's 28 community colleges.

  • 72.4% of our A.A. graduates transfer to a state university to continue their studies. Florida is number one in the transfer of graduates from community colleges to the upper division.

  • Valencia was chosen by Time magazine in 2001 as one of the nation's best schools at helping first-year students thrive.

  • Valencia was the first community college in the nation to be invited to join the prestigious National Council on Competitiveness, a think-tank of university presidents, Fortune 500 CEOs and labor leaders dedicated to keeping the U.S. an economic world leader.

  • Valencia partners with local school districts to help prepare high school students for postsecondary education. Cooperative programs include dual enrollment, Tech Prep, Upward Bound, Bridges to Success and Reach-Out.

  • Along with local school districts and social service agencies, Valencia equipped seven neighborhood centers with computers and software training through a federal grant aimed at helping low-income residents bridge the digital divide.

  • Funded by the Florida Humanities Council, Valencia offers a college-level, credit course of study in the humanities for the multi-generational poor and homeless of Central Florida.
